REGRETS: Gail Doehler, Jean Witherspoon, Sharon King, Elizabeth Ritchie, Carolyn Beard, Lyn Forbes, Jean Patton

WELCOME AND THANKS: Beth Raymer welcomed everyone to the meeting at 7:37 P.M. and thanked Lyn Forbes, Helen McCubbin, Rosemary Dennis, and all outgoing and incoming Executive members for their service.

MINUTES OF THE APRIL MEETING: Acceptance was moved by Beth Raymer and seconded by Helen McCubbin.

BUSINESS:

  • GENERAL MEETINGS:

    • Doors will open at 7:00 P.M., Business will be conducted at 7:30 and Speakers will follow at 8:00 P.M., with flexibility for speakers needing an earlier time.

    • The September meeting will be one and a half hours. Sign-up sheets will be available for meeting refreshments, Interest Groups and introducing and thanking our speakers. Rosemary Dennis and Jean Witherspoon will provide refreshments. Beth Raymer will organize break-out groups to review and discuss moving forward, fundraising ideas and increasing membership. The suggestion was made that we arrange the room with tables and chairs for seating, similar to the Tea in May, to encourage discussion.

    • Our meeting structure discussion could include the idea of sending out business agenda items by email and only having a speaker and refreshments in person to encourage attendance. This is similar to what the North York Club does.

    • Beth Raymer will coordinate a presentation about our updated website, CFUWScarborough.org, with Amal Suresh, the Centennial College student who is working on this during the summer. He is designing a Members Only section that will include the option of online payment for Club dues and tickets to Club events. We need a Club member to volunteer as a contact coordinator for Amal while Beth is away for six weeks.

    • Beth Raymer will also try to organize a summer coffee for anyone interested in discussing meeting organization.

    • Kathie Krashinsky will include a guide to setting up a personal link to receive weekly notices from the National office, if they would like to have them. These notices are quite long and would add a significant amount of email content for members to review each week. This way, it would be an optional and individual decision.

    • At either the September or October General Meeting we should observe our 65th Anniversary for this year.

    • We will do another Open House meeting with publicity, guest invitations, a speaker and refreshments in October. There will be a flyer available with information about the Club. The Advocacy Group will provide two speakers for General Meetings, one possibly in November.

    • General Meetings will be held on Mondays: September 15, 2025, October 20, 2025, November 17, 2025, December 8, 2025 (Christmas Party), January 19, 2026 (on Zoom), February 23, 2026 (on Zoom), March 16, 2026, April 20, 2026, May 11, 2026 (May Dinner).

  • TREASURER’S REPORT:

    • Rosemary Dennis reported that Sharon King will send out a $1,000 donation to the Scarborough Women’s Centre, and a $2,000 donation to Centennial College in June. UTSC scholarships are done through endowment. We have paid our Ontario and National dues, leaving us with a balance of $7,929.04 going into September. Our CFUW fees are lower now, because we are no longer participating in GWI.

    • Question – Do we need a motion each year to continue the donations above?

  •  $3,219 was made from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. We will continue to provide gift bags to Juliette’s place in December.

  • NEWSLETTER: Helen McCubbin will finish the newsletter while serving as Past President. There will be a meeting on June 28th  at 3:00 P.M. with Helen, Beth Raymer and Debbie Parker to talk about revitalizing the Club.

  • ARCHIVES: Ruth Wolff needs a copy of the Minutes for Executive (Kathie Krashinsky) and General (Cheryl Schindler) Meetings, the Newsletter and a Tea Party report. Marilyn Lind will ask Valerie McLean for Interest Group photos. Ruth can also keep digital archives.

  • ONTARIO AND NATIONAL COUNCIL AGM’S: The National AGM is being held online this year, significantly reducing our costs for participation. Our delegate needs to register by June 24th. A paper copy of Beth’s report on the Ontario AGM is attached to these minutes.

  • EXECUTIVE MEETINGS: Executive meetings will be held on the following Mondays at 7:00 P.M. September 8, 2025, November 10, 2025, January 12, 2026, March 9, 2026, and June 8, 2026.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:22 P.M.

Respectfully submitted by Kathie Krashinsky
